Harold "Hank" Loomis Morgan III

Harold "Hank" Loomis Morgan III, 88, passed away peacefully at home in Darien, Connecticut, on September 17, 2026, surrounded by his family.

Born in Manhattan on March 20, 1938, to Harold Loomis Morgan Jr. and Olga Davis Morgan, Hank grew up in Darien and remained a proud Darienite his whole life. He attended Hindley Elementary, Middlesex Middle School, and Darien High School (1956) -- where he captained both the football and hockey teams in his senior year.

He went on to Harvard College where he played hockey, was a member of Winthrop House, and from which he received his A.B. degree in 1964 as a member of the Harvard Class of 1960. Hank continued his relationship with Harvard throughout his life, attending commencement ceremonies, the quinquennial reunions, at least 35 of the Class of 1960’s luncheons, hockey games, and the annual Harvard vs. Yale Football Game (“The Game”). His Harvard Class of 1960 classmates honored Hank at THE Country Club in Brookline, MA on October 21, 2021, for his contributions to the Class! Hank established the Class website and shepherded its development for more than 23 years!

Hank built a distinguished career in photojournalism, covering some of the most significant events of the 20th century through his lens, including the Apollo missions, Space Shuttle launches, medical advancements, the 1980 Winter Olympics in Lake Placid, and numerous Super Bowls.

Hank's love for Darien never wavered. He was a familiar and welcome presence at countless Darien High School sporting events and joined the Darien Road Race as Race Director in 1982, serving in that capacity until his retirement in 2015. His love for running included 35 marathons; some of his favorites being Boston and London. Harvard classmates might recollect that at the 25th reunion, after running many extra yards on a very poorly marked course, Hank famously tied for the win!

In 1995, Hank married Karen Isabel Beveridge. Shortly afterwards, many of Hank’s classmates enjoyed meeting his young bride at the Class’ 35th reunion! The two shared a love of travel, golf, running, and family. In addition to his wife, Karen, of Darien, he is survived by his three children: Hannah Morgan Castrucci and her husband Bill of Hampden, Maine; Miles Morgan and his wife Courtney of Castle Pines, Colorado; and Andrew Morgan and his wife Jami of Stamford, Connecticut; and his sister, Jennifer "Jiffy" Massey, of San Clemente, California. His sister, Kate Chandler Morgan, of Tallahassee, Florida predeceased Hank. He was the proud grandfather ("Poobah") of five: Liam, Finn, Zoe, and Tessa Castrucci, and Kinsley Morgan.

The family will hold a private service at the Harvard Club in Boston. In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to Waveny Hospice Services:
