Jose Buscaglia and Trump vs. Higher Education / Harvard
I (Henry Marcy) received the following from our esteemed sculptor / artist classmate, Jose Buscaglia in late May 2025. See also his website (below).
Dear Henry and fellow classmates,
I have received your email forwarding information pertinent to the "urgent need to defend our alma mater's future". I am very pleased that, as the representative of our class of '60, you are urging us to do whatever we can to join in this crucial and existential controversy.
I have already sent two letters to President Garber congratulating him on his courageous stance, and I have already received a gracious response from him expressing his appreciation.
Since my most direct and familiar mode of communication is the visual language, I feel that the most effective way for me to contribute to this effort is by making available the works I have executed regarding this outrageous and vicious assault by Thump and his administration to Harvard, and to the most fundamental principles of democracy and academic freedom. I am therefore taking the liberty of enclosing photos of some of the paintings I have done linked to this issue.
Having lived, twice as a student and twice as a professional in Spain under Franco's highly repressive fascist regime, I feel very strongly about this. This is a libretto I have seen before and I am fully aware of its tragic and fatal consequences.
Please feel free to use your own judgement as to whom these photos should be forwarded and how they could be used to counteract the measures the Trump administration is taking before the regime becomes unchallengeable.
I am aware of the personal risk I am taking but, at our age this becomes basically meaningless.
With my very best regards and my best wishes in your endeavors in favor of Harvard University,
José
