Ed Baum receives award
The European Centre for Architecture, Art, Design, and Urban Studies recently announced the winners of its 2025 Green Good Design Awards. Ed Baum received one of these prestigious awards in the ‘Architecture’ category for his Solar/Max Prototype Courtyard Housing. The Solar/Max scheme investigates to what extent housing developments can generate solar power far beyond their own energy needs. Can housing become a solar field as well? In this case, the market-sized courtyard housing (1865 ft2 / 173 m2) produces over 5 times the power that it consumes. This 400% ‘energy profit’ can be returned to the grid to help pay for the dwellings themselves. Other Solar/Max Prototypes are being developed.
