Peter D. Erskine, age 85, passed away on December 23, 2023, at Parklane at Bellingham in West Chester, PA. He was born in Philadelphia on October 18, 1938, and lived in Wayne, PA most of his life.
Peter prepared at Germantown Friends School in Philadelphia, graduating in 1956, before earning, in 1961, an A.B. degree in anthropology from Harvard College where he was a member of Lowell House and the Harvard Class of 1960. Subsequently, he received his Pennsylvania teaching certification from Temple University.
Peter was a history teacher, first at the Fessenden School in West Newton, MA, then, in the Paoli Area High School System in Pennsylvania and, then, in 1969, in the Great Valley School District in Pennsylvania until his retirement in 1990. He was the President of his local teacher’s union and was an excellent negotiator.
Peter created the Chester County PSERS Retirement organization soon after he retired and served as President for many years. Peter enjoyed traveling, theater, coaching soccer, nature, and engaging in vibrant discussions. He was a loyal friend to many.
Peter is survived by his dear friend, Sheila Ashley, and cousins Elizabeth H. Schurmann, Margaret R. Hartmann, Beth (Roger) Lefferts, Edward (Teresa) Hartmann, and God daughter Kimberly Lindemuth. He is predeceased by a cousin Joseph H. Hartmann and by his parents, Thomas and Ada (Funke) Erskine.
