Messages to Classmates
December 23, 2023

Dear Harvard Class of 1960 CLASSMATES, please buck up, stay as healthy as possible and, above all, ENJOY this holiday season!

FOUR messages follow:

I. Our classmate, Will Fitzhugh, continues to make an extraordinary contribution to secondary education throughout the world! The Pioneer Institute for Public Policy Research recently presented a marvelously uplifting webinar featuring The Concord Review’s founder Will, editor Robert Nasson and three students who have benefitted from the opportunity presented by The Concord Review.

The webinar's link: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=IybwIgRPvfM&t=361s. You will be INSPIRED … and you will come away from the webinar with HOPE writ large no matter the extent you are anxious about the future and agonize about modern-day public and/or private school education. The hour is well worth it; the webinar is full of encouraging insights, from Will’s and Robert’s perspectives and from the students’ perspectives. Please give the webinar a go!

The Concord Review: A Quarterly Review of Essays by Students of History (https://tcr.org/), is an academic journal dedicated to publishing the history research papers of high school students. Its existence proves that it can be done; the Pygmalion Effect in spades! The core belief embodied in The Concord Review is that the pursuit of academic excellence in secondary schools should be given the same attention as the pursuit of excellence in sports and other extracurricular activities. Indeed, many students do exemplary work in history.
