Howard Hessington Fairweather

FAIRWEATHER, Howard Hessington, beloved husband and father, passed away from heart failure on January 6, 2023, at the age of 84. Born May 13, 1938, in Brooklyn, NY, Howard graduated from Samuel J. Tilden High School in New York in 1956. He then attended Harvard College where he was a member of the Harvard Class of 1960 and Leverett House. Howard earned an A.B. cum laude in History. Following his graduation from Harvard, Howard, in 1962, earned his M.B.A. from Dartmouth’s Amos Tuck School of Business.

Professionally, Howard enjoyed a long, successful career at State Street Bank and Trust Company in Boston, MA, from which he retired as Executive Vice President in 1996.

Howard loved to travel, especially to Italy, where he and Dorothy spent much of their time after his retirement.

Personally, and in his mind and heart more importantly, Howard was a loving, devoted husband to his wife, Dorothy Woodley Fairweather; and an unfailingly kind and dedicated father to his two daughters, Gwyneth Fairweather DeMartino and Bobbi Jo Abasta. Howard was an extraordinary husband and father, our "rock."

Howard was also a wonderful and reliable friend to so many. Indeed, Howard leaves behind a legacy of kindness, loyalty, service, and genuine compassion for others. Howard was eminently smart, witty, sure, and always an optimist. He woke up happy just about every morning, whistling his way through his days. Our hearts are full with gratitude for our good fortune in sharing in his beautiful, purposeful life.

A Service to celebrate Howard will be held at the First Religious Society (UU) in Newburyport, MA, on Saturday, February 4, at 2PM.
