George Whitley

George Whitley died on February 2, 2022. He was born on October 18, 1939, the oldest of nine children of Blanche (Turner) and William Whitley of Chicago, Illinois.

After being an excellent high school student, earning a number of honors, George began his college education at Harvard College where he was a member of the Harvard Class of 1960 and Dunster House. He went on to earn a B.A. and an M.A. in History from Roosevelt University and a PhD in Education Administration from Northwestern University.

On December 15, 1968, George married Olive Kemp and spent 51 years of blessed matrimony together until her passing in February 2019. Olive and George shared a love of education, both having extended careers with the Chicago Public Schools. Indeed, George dedicated his life to education, beginning his career as a Social Studies teacher and holding positions of expanding authority, including serving as Principal of Lemoyne Elementary School and as Assistant Superintendent for Cook County.
