The Chateau, Waltham, MA

Twenty (20) Harvard ’60 classmates attended our class luncheon at The Chateau in Waltham on Thursday, June 10, 2021. Everyone was glad to be back together after 17 months in pandemic mode since our last luncheon.

Those in attendance included Bob Adams, Bob Bray, Bill Cunningham, Ed Cutter, Ken Deitch, Bart Dunbar, Lou Geoffrion, Ron Goodman, David Hawkins, Dave Kopelman, Gerry Levenson, Henry Marcy, Ken Marshall, Peter Papesch, Don Quinn, David Ries, Will Rogers, Richard Saval, Steve Weddle and John Wilson.

Henry began proceedings by expressing his happiness at being back together: “I appreciate all of you! I know some of us have health issues, but you are here! Thank you for coming and being such a great bunch of guys!”

Noted as currently having health-related issues were Dev Barker, our Class Treasurer, who died on June 16; Eugene Lipkowitz (since admitted into a new drug trial), Ed Tarlov who hopefully has recovered from surgery just prior to June 10; and Karen Sturges, wife of Hale Sturges, who is in hospice care. Jerry Amero, a luncheon attender, died in March 2021. We have lost at least three classmates to COVID-19 – Jake Slepian (and his wife Carole), Paul Bienstock (and his wife Ellen) and Jeff Paley. Obituaries of these and other classmates are on our website -- http://h1960.classes.harvard.edu/.

Henry also lauded the Crimson Society (https://alumni.harvard.edu/haa-crimson-society) events during Harvard’s Commencement period in late May and early June. Our classmates Ron Goodman and Bill Markus serve on the Committee along with Joan O’Connor of the Radcliffe Class of 1960. See especially:

Almost everyone at the luncheon on June 10 had an opportunity to speak to the group as a whole about their current status and about what they had experienced during the pandemic (though Henry needs to get a little tougher on those who run on too long).

Henry has not as yet scheduled another Class event. However, consideration is being given to a fairly informal (assorted drinks and hors d’oeuvres), mid-October afternoon gathering of H’60 and spouses and R’60 and spouses at some place like THE Country Club in Brookline, the Colonial Inn in Concord, Elm Bank in Wellesley, Wayside Inn in Sudbury, etc. Let Henry know if you have any thoughts.
