Embassy Suites, Waltham, MA

Twenty-three (23) Harvard ’60 classmates attended the luncheon at Embassy Suites in Waltham on Thursday, January 16, 2020.

Those in attendance included Bob Adams, Dev Barker, Bob Bray, Ken Deitch, Jim Dineen (a FIRST TIMER !! according to my 1992 to the present records), Bart Dunbar, Ron Goodman, Dave Hawkins, Dave Kopelman, Gerry Levenson, Henry Marcy, Bill Markus, Ken Marshall, Joe Murphy, Peter Papesch, Don Quinn, David Ries, Will Rogers, Richard Saval, Ed Tarlov, Steve Weddle, John Wilson and David Wizansky.

This was our twenty-fifth (25th) time at Embassy Suites (formerly DoubleTree Guest Suites) in Waltham. Almost every time -- I think all but one time when we were in their regular dining room (which no longer exists) -- we have been in the nice … and perfect for our group … Briar room on the third floor.

During the reception period, we indulged in a small quantity of beer and wine from a self-service mini-bar set-up. (I’m not sure how Embassy Suites gets around Massachusetts law in this respect.) Soft drinks were missing … and we had to marshal the troops to obtain some. Inconsistent with our usual practice, I attempted to get all our classmates to wear nametags. It is getting harder to remember everyone’s name … and, of course, it is quite helpful to first timers like Jim and those who are relatively “irregular”.

The luncheon consisted of a tossed mixed green salad, stir-fried chicken and a vanilla bean mousse parfait (all of which seemed delightful to me). Kim, our sole server, did a masterful job. In talking to her after the luncheon, she expressed appreciation for the kindness and pleasantness of the group … and, then, was flabbergasted when I told her that we were all eighty-one or eighty-two years of age and had been gathering for four to six luncheons every year since 1970 (FIFTY YEARS!!!).

After lunch, as is our normal practice, we went around the hollow square table giving each classmate an opportunity to tell us about what is currently important that is going on in their life. We also spent a little time, actually before we began eating, discussing plans for our 60th Reunion coming up May 25 – 28 this year.
