Noel P. Muller

Noel P. Muller of Minneapolis, husband, father, grandfather, lawyer and lover of books, departed this world peacefully on October 18, 2019, surrounded by his family up to the moment of his last breath. Noel's passing marks a merciful end to a long battle with cancer and other maladies. Throughout this difficult final journey, Noel was blessed to have the steadfast support of his loving wife, Karen. The couple recently celebrated their 57th wedding anniversary. In the course of their 57 years together, they raised two sons, traveled the world, and shared their unique sense of humor. Noel, born August 30, 1938, was the only son of Noel and Eva Muller, of Sioux Falls, South Dakota. He graduated in 1960 with an A.B. in Economics from Harvard College, where he was a member of Winthrop House and the Class of 1960, joining the U.S. Navy as an officer the same year. In 1962, Noel and Karen married. A year later, they relocated to the Twin Cities while Noel attended the University of Minnesota School of Law and Karen supported the couple by teaching school. In 1963, Noel graduated from law school with an LL.B., embarking on a legal career that spanned five decades. After graduation he and Karen moved to Duluth, Minnesota. In 1970, the couple welcomed their first-born son, Matthew. Two years later, they were blessed again, welcoming son, Andrew. In 1973, the Mullers moved to Minneapolis, where they have resided in the same home for the past 45 years. Besides practicing law, Noel's other passions included travel; amateur hockey, especially the Golden Gophers; playing cards (he was a life master at bridge) and completing crossword puzzles. Above all, he loved spending time with his wife, sons, and grandchildren. Noel is survived by wife, Karen, sons, Matthew and Andrew, and 8 grandchildren. A memorial service was held on November 2, 2019.
