David Jarlath Slattery died October 30, 2009, in Gilbert, South Carolina. The son of Jarlath and Margaret Collins Slattery, he was born in Boston on March 20, 1940. He attended Sunapee (New Hampshire) High School. He entered Harvard at the age of sixteen, lived in Winthrop House, and was a member of the varsity hockey team and Hasty Pudding. After receiving his A.B. in 1961, he joined the army and served as a Chinese linguist. He completed his LL.B. at Boston University in 1966.
He practiced with the Department of Justice in Boston until joining the US Attorney's Office in South Carolina, where he spent the rest of his career prosecuting a variety of complex white-collar cases, from electoral shenanigans to nursing home fraud to environmental crimes.
He was an avid, lifelong fan of Boston sports teams.
He was survived by his wife of forty-one years, Corinne (Taube); two sons, Patrick and Bryan; two sisters, Patsy and Maureen; and four grandchildren.
