Philippe Meier Charat

 

Philippe Charat, of Rancho Santa Fe, Calif., died on November 26, 2017. He was born in Paris, France on Bastille Day (July 14), 1939. He prepared at Hillcrest, Dallas, Texas. Philippe was a member of Eliot House and graduated with an A.B. in economics. He also received an M.B.A. in 1962 from Harvard. He started and ran many businesses but was primarily occupied in fisheries in Mexico. For many years, Philippe was involved in Mexican fishing organizations and worked to solve the problem of dolphin mortality in the tuna fishery industry. His most recent business was catching and readying bluefin tuna for the Japanese sushi market. He leaves his wife, Gloria “Bonnie” (Haselton), two daughters, Jennifer ’97 and Valerie ’01, Ed.M. ’03, a son, Joseph ’02, and a brother, Francis ’67, M.B.A. ’71, and seven grandchildren.
