Michael r. Milano


"Mike" age 78, psychiatrist, poet, and prize-winning wine maker, died peacefully January 11, 2018, surrounded by his loving family. He was the beloved husband of 56 years of Patricia, the loving father of Maureen Burgess (Carter), Edmund (Linda), Timothy (Susan), and Sean (Leslie) Milano, and the delighted grandfather of Carter, Evelyn, Sara, Allison, Joseph, Raymond, James, and Abigail. Dr. Milano was born in Rutland, Vermont on January 19, 1939. He prepared for college at Whitehall High School in Whitehall, New York. In 1960, he graduated magna cum laude in History and Science from Harvard College where he was a member of Winthrop House. Mike earned his M.D. at Albany Medical College and did psychiatric training at The Psychiatric Institute of Columbia Presbyterian. He practiced psychiatry in Teaneck, New Jersey for forty-six years, specializing in family therapy. In addition, he was an amateur wine maker with the label "Vino Nostro", winning many medals and first prize in the Corrado's Amatuer winemaking contest.

He loved poetry and his work had an accessible, understandable quality that people enjoyed. He published three books: "Conversations and Poetry", "Mulberry Doon" and "Milkweed" in which he expressed his thoughts and feelings on everything from becoming a doctor, to falling in love, to being a frustrated athlete.

Friends are invited to gather at Volk Leber Funeral Home, 789 Teaneck Rd., Teaneck, NJ from 4 to 8 PM Sunday, January, 14th. A memorial funeral mass will be held Monday, January 15 at 11 AM at the church of St. Anastasia, 1095 Teaneck Rd, Teaneck, NJ.
