Roland Chambers, Harvard Class of 1960, former head of Louis Kemp and then head of Tyson Seafood in Seattle, with a long career in the seafood industry around surimi seafoods, died February 12, 2009, from a heart attack. He was 70 years old.
A memorial service with his wife Mary, and family, was held in Ormond Beach, FL on Sunday, Feb 22nd.
Roland was well known in the industry as president of Louis Kemp seafoods, one of the first major surimi seafoods manufacturers in the U.S. When Louis Kemp was bought by Tyson, Roland moved to Seattle, where he became head of seafood and a Vice President at Tyson. Later he was also president of Kibun, USA.
He was active in the National Fisheries Institute, and in the promotion and development of surimi seafood.
According to one of his friend, Don Short, "He and his wife Mary attended numerous NFI conventions and Board meetings. His able,considered counsel was valued by all and he will be widely missed."
Besides his wife Mary of 21 years, he is survived by his son, Arthur and his wife Lisa Chambers of Canonsburgh, PA; his daughters, Carolyn and her husband Scott Fitzwilliam of Port Orange, FL; and Kimberly Chambers of Mocksville, NC, and several grandchildren.
