Hugh Wendell Barber, Jr.

 

Hugh Wendell Barber, Jr., died October 8, 2008, in Annapolis, Maryland. The son of Hugh Wendell and Wyelian F. Barber, he was born November 8, 1938, in Fargo, North Dakota. He was a Quincy House resident and ROTC student at Harvard and received his A.B. in 1961. He completed an M.P.S. at Auburn University in 1974.

A retired colonel in the U.S. Air Force and a specialist in counterintelligence, he was former deputy chief of staff for plans and policy, Office of Special Investigations. During his twenty-eight-year career in the military he served in the Philippines, where he was chief of special counterintelligence operations, did multiple tours in Vietnam, and was assigned several times to military training teams in Southeast Asia.

After retiring in 1989 he went to work for Pinkerton Global Intelligence Services as chief consultant on counterterrorism.

His main hobby was genealogy.

He was survived by his wife of thirty-five years, Huong Le; three daughters, Leslie Davis, Julia, and Emily; a son, David; a sister, Nancy Mann; and four grandchildren.
